These pictures were taken August 2, 2009 along the Mt. Whitney trail above Lone Pine, California. Mt. Whitney is the highest peak in the lower Untied States at 14,495 feet.
Mt. Whitney was desovered in 1864 by Clarance King of the Californa Geological Survey. He then names it after his boss, Josiah Whitney, thus earning the office "Brown Noser of all Time" award.
After four and a half hours I made it to 12,100 feet. That was enough for me. I'll give it another try the next time I'm in the area.
